Capabu Foods in Millstreet, Co Cork
This issue, owner Catherine Buicke and staff members Paulina Kasprzycka, Lauren Buicke (Catherine’s daughter) and Joanna O’Shea test out their favourite health products.
Help for relaxation
Catherine says: “Fabu R&R Relax has become part of my evening routine. It helps to calm my mind and my sleep has definitely improved. It is based on the ayurvedic herb Ashwagandha and botanical extracts blended with B vitamins and magnesium to support your psychological function, nervous system and mental performance.”
Natural and organic skincare
Catherine says: “I absolutely love the Kinvara skin care range. Natural and organic ingredients, cruelty free and vegan friendly and best of all Irish! My two favourite products are the 24hr Rosehip Face Serum and the Active Rosehip Day Cream. My skin is quite sensitive and I have noticed a big improvement in my skin since I have started using it.”
A multivit for kids
Paulina says: “Terranova Green Child Living Multivitamin is a natural food supplement designed specifically for children aged 4-12 years of age. I give it to my son when the school season starts. This supplement significantly improves his immunity and reduces absences from school. I highly recommend it, especially in the autumn and winter season.”
All-purpose cleaner
Paulina says: “If you are looking for a good cleaning spray you definitely need to try Method Anti-Bac Wild Rhubarb All-Purpose Cleaner. It’s cruelty-free, plant-based, made with biodegradable ingredients, and the wild rhubarb fragrance – I absolutely love it!”
Vitamin E oil
Lauren says: “I love the Fushi brand. They use 100% pure ingredients in their products, specifically in their oils for face and body such as the Fushi Really Good Vitamin E Oil. It can be hard to find good products for acne and this is why I adore their vitamin E oil. I have always struggled with acne and scarring but this oil has really helped to clear my skin. Best of all – it’s cruelty free.”
A supplement for stress
Lauren says: “Another product from Fushi that I love is their Ashwagandha with Lemon Balm + MCT. I have been taking these capsules on and off since we opened the shop in 2019 and the benefits are life-changing! I would highly recommend these supplements for anyone going through stressful times, for people who have a racing mind or someone who tends to overthink a lot during the day – these will help to relax and ease your mind without making you sleepy. I also think these would be highly beneficial for students during exam times.”
Magnesium bisglycinate
Joanna says: “I would not be without my PrizMAG Pure Magnesium Bisglycinate. Magnesium supports a normal healthy nervous system and muscle function. I started taking it for leg cramps I was getting at nighttime. I do not get leg cramps anymore and it has really helped improve my sleep.”
Effervescent vitamin C
Joanna says: “I also take Quest Orange Flavour Effervescent Vitamin C 1,000mg. Great for people who have trouble taking tablets. Vitamin C is a powerful antioxidant that protects your cells from oxidative stress and strengthens your immune system. I use it to boost my immune system to keep colds at bay.”
The Aquarian Health Store, Main Street, Cahersiveen, Co Kerry
Owner Suzan Turan and staff members Julie Holstead and Gerri Cooper test out their favourite health products.
For a shiny crown
Suzan says: “I have been using Sea Magik shampoo and conditioner for over a decade. I’ve tried other nice ones, but always come back to these. They seem to really nourish my hair and scalp and the conditioner leaves one amazing shine.”
Digestive support
Suzan says: “I alternate between NaturesPlus GI Nutra powder or tabs and New Nordic Fat Burner. These two keep that creepy menopause bloat under control, particularly when travelling, which I do quite often.”
Organic matcha
Suzan says: “As a coffee lover, I’ve been reluctant to even try Matcha. It has not only grown on me, but I would miss not having a cup a day. I love Clearspring Organic Japanese Matcha Powder.”
Liposomal vitamin C
Julie says: “I take SOMEGA Liposomal Vitamin C Liquid for my immune health as
I do have a lowered immune system issue. It is very easy to take on a daily basis.”
Krill oil
Julie says: “I take Cleanmarine Krill Oil for my mental clarity. It helps me to concentrate better.”
Gentle soaps
Julie says: “I use Dr Bronner’s Soaps daily as I have very dry and at times flaky skin. These soaps are very gentle and don’t dry my skin out.”
Anti-ageing drops
Gerri says: “Brand new Weleda Serum Booster Drops: Slow Ageing make my skin fabulously silky. Great under foundation.”
Collagen boost
Gerri says: “SOMEGA Collagen Plus is great for skin, joints and hair. I noticed a big difference after just six weeks.”
Magnesium bisglycinate
Gerri says: “I take PrizMAG Pure Magnesium Bisglycinate for leg cramps and it works very well. If I miss it for a few days, they are back. I take it with breakfast so that I don’t forget.”
