Here’s Health in Cork

Here, Bruna Bacellar, Marie Dwan, Isabella Marusic, Aisling Kelly, Shay Kearney and Michelle Long review their favourite products.

For energy support
Bruna says: “As an Ayurvedic herbal therapist and endurance runner, I prioritise stress resilience alongside performance. Viridian’s Enhanced Rhodiola Complex supports recovery, muscular strength and adrenal balance. If you want to perform at your best while keeping it natural, this is a powerful bridge between Vedic wisdom and modern science.”

Nourishing castor oil
Marie says: “Fushi’s Castor oil is a total powerhouse, deeply nourishing skin and locking in that soft, hydrated look we all crave. Noted for its incredible anti-inflammatory powers, it acts as a gentle hug, soothing your body whenever you may be feeling inflamed or weary.”

Help for cognitive function
Isabella says: “An unsung hero for cognitive function and stress regulation is Viridian’s Choline. This is an essential nutrient found primarily in animal products and especially egg yolks. There is a significant link between low levels of choline and higher rates of anxiety, which suggests reduced capacity to handle stress, causing the brain to stay in a “fight-or-flight” state.”

Joint support
Aisling says: “Viridian’s Curcumin Complex is a game changer for any kinds of joint aches and pains. My husband and I find it useful for lower back pain, stiffness after the gym and for any other kinds of aches or pains. Curcumin is known to reduce joint inflammation, boswellia is a potent anti-inflammatory, and ginger is a nice addition to promote healing in the joints.”

Essential amino acid
Shay says: “I recommend Now Foods’ Glycine. This amino acid is essential to the production of the antioxidant and cell protector glutathione. It is a key component in collagen and creatine production and has a calming effect by triggering the relaxation neurotransmitter GABA. It is a potent anti-inflammatory and has a valuable role in relaxation, improved sleep quality and joint repair.”

Nervous system support
Michelle says: “Macánta’s L-Theanine & L-Ornithine complex is a great support for everyday stress. The L-theanine and lemon balm helps relaxation and focus, the L-ornithine and chamomile supports a restful sleep while the B vitamins help to support the nervous system. It is overall a great supplement for a busy day, periods of high stress and studying.”

Nature’s Gold in Greystones, Co Wicklow

This issue, Judith Crowe, Jo Segrave Daly, Jeniffer Castaneda, Yvonne Lalor, Stephie Harris and Ines Lawlor test out their favourite health products.

Cleansing milk
Judith says: “One of my favourite beauty products is the cleansing milk from the French Hydraflore range. I’ve used it every night for years and love how it feels especially as my skin is super sensitive and prone to reactions. It’s fine to use without water and gets rid of eye make-up and foundation, leaving my skin smooth, moist and comfortable.”

Energy booster
Jo says: “One Nutrition Shilajit is my go-to when my energy levels are low, providing a welcome boost during busy times. For anyone doing high intensity workouts this is a perfect supplement too, as the nutrient dense Shilajit helps sustain your performance.”

Digestive blend
Jeniffer says: “My go-to is Dr Clare’s Digestone tea. It is one of my favourite herbal teas. I use it especially when I’m going through periods of bloating and stomach discomfort. It has a good combination of digestive herbs with a lovely soft and gentle taste. My one to keep in the cupboard at all times!”

Firming mask
Yvonne says: “I love Dr Hauschka’s Firming Mask. It really does minimise fine lines and wrinkles. Despite having lots of beautiful oils and butters it is not oily or shiny, so can be worn under make-up all day. I use it about twice a week and really see a difference in my skin tone and plumpness.”

Herbal helper
Stephie says: “I started taking New Roots Herbal PEA (a natural compound that helps to calm chronic inflammation) having struggled with debilitating sciatic pain for months. After just two weeks, the intensity of the nerve pain eased significantly and two months later I’m feeling so much better. I’m also finding them very gentle on my stomach.”

Magnesium complex
Ines says: “One of my favourite supplements is the Magnesium Bisglycinate Complex from Irish brand Macánta. The combination of bisglycinate, B vitamins, amino acids and herbs is not just great for a good night’s sleep, but also helps with mild anxiety. As a mum of four teenagers, it helps me to let go of worries in the evening and settle down for a restful sleep.”
