Roaring Waters health store, Schul, Co Cork

This issue manager Lisa Scarff, assistant manager Rachel Waldron and sales assistant Victoria Glanville review a sleep aid, digestive aid, natural skincare product and deodorant and dairy-free ice-cream

1. DAIRY-FREE ICE-CREAM

Lisa says: “Nobó Dairy Free Frozen Goodness is a delicious dairy-free ice-cream that is becoming very popular. Made in Ireland with good quality ingredients, it is a treat for the tastebuds. My favourites are Fresh Lemon and Mint and Toffee.”

2. NATURAL DEODORANT

Rachel says: “I really cannot praise Warrior Deodorant Cream enough. Handmade in West Cork with simple organic ingredients, gorgeous scents and minimal packaging, it really works! I have never found a natural deodorant that keeps me fresh all day like this one does, whether exercising, anxious or just working hard. I would highly recommend it to anyone.”

3. DIGESTIVE AID

Victoria says: “A.Vogel Digestisan Tincture is a great product consisting of various herbs and bitters. It is excellent for stimulating digestion prior to a meal and encouraging smooth assimilation after eating, avoiding the discomfort of indigestion and heartburn.”

4. RAW SAUERKRAUT

Lisa says: “The Cultured Food Company Raw Sauerkraut is made locally with organic ingredients and packed full of goodness and live cultures. My favourite is the Ruby Red – the cumin seeds and the red cabbage complement each other very well. Great for digestion, immunity and much more.”

5. NATURAL MOISTURISER

Rachel says: “Avalon Organics Brilliant Balance Daily Moisturiser with Lavender and Prebiotics is part of a lovely range of skincare products. I particularly like the daily moisturiser which feels light, spreads beautifully and does not irritate my sensitive skin. It feels cooling when applied and the scent of lavender is gentle and soothing.”

6. SLEEP HELP

Victoria says: “I find Lanes Kalms Night is good for sleep. It is a pure valerian root extract in an easy-to-swallow tablet. Taken just half an hour before retiring, it ensures undisturbed, deep and refreshing sleep and no ‘hangover’. Read instructions and precautions carefully.”

Horans Healthstore, The Square, Tralee

This issue store manager Clover Wharton; beauty, health and nutrition advisors Mary Murphy and Sheila McQuinn, also a beauty therapist at Nature’s Beauty Salon, and Kayleigh Quirke, health and nutrition advisor review echinacea tincture, apple cider vinegar and a whole range of beauty and skincare products

1. LAVENDER FOR SUNBURN

Mary says: “Lavender essential oil is a well-known remedy for treating burns. For that reason it is a good idea to keep a bottle in your first aid box at home. Treat yourself to a bottle of Atlantic Aromatics Lavender Water 100ml – for safety, do a patch test first. In the event of serious sunburn, keep well hydrated and seek professional help if necessary.”

2. FACIAL SERUM

Sheila says: “Doctor Mahers 7 Berry Facial Serum is an absolute must-have for all your beauty needs. Bursting with essential nutrients, it hydrates, nourishes and rejuvenates your skin, bringing out your natural glow. 100% natural and handmade with passion in Co Kerry.”

3. MARIGOLD CREAM

Kayleigh says: “I really love the Harebell Herbs skincare range, but my favourite product is definitely the Organic Marigold Cream. It helped me to heal some mild eczema I had a few years ago. Now I use it on a daily basis to moisturise and soothe my dry, sensitive skin.”

4. ECHINACEA TINCTURE

Clover says: “If you suffer from recurrent mouth ulcers or sore inflamed areas in your mouth use A. Vogel Echinacea Tincture dabbed on the sore areas with a cotton bud or clean fingertip. This will initially sting but is highly effective at reducing pain and promoting healing.”

5. APPLE CIDER VINEGAR

Clover says: “Start your day with a glass of warm water and a spoon of Braggs Organic or Rainbow Organic Apple Cider Vinegar to get your metabolism started.”

6. BB CREAM

Sheila says: “Glow Time BB Cream is Jane Iredale’s highest coverage foundation. Four pea size dots is all you need for a full face. I am a huge fan of this natural, mineral liquid foundation. I use it daily and in the salon on my clients. Jane Iredale products are all vegan and cruelty-free, which we love.”

7. ROSE TONER

Mary says: “Flourish Organics Rose Mist Toner is made from organic rose water and infused with flower essence of Mula Mula and She Oak flower to rehydrate, soothe and refresh thirsty skin. Use it as part of your skincare ritual or pop it into your handbag and treat yourself to a midday lift. We are huge fans here at Horan’s the Square – we all use it!”
